1.
Can you present
your band in a few words ? When and how did it all begin ? Where are you from
and does it have an influence on your music ?
"We like saying that Saigon
Blue Rain is a gothic band with hints of colors and light in a global dark
universe.
Franck and I started the
project at the end of the year 2012 quite unexpectedly after we composed and
wrote a song to the memory of my grandparents, dead a few days before. We've
thought that it was a good cold dream pop song, so we've composed a few other
tracks in the wake and that's how our first EP « Stupid Bitch
Reject » was born.
We are both from Paris but
this city has never really had influence on our music because the scene we belong
to is quite inexistent here and we've always felt like strangers to the urban
atmosphere which reigns there, it's so far from what we try to communicate
through our music and from our ideas."
2. How many albums have you already released ? How did
you manage to release it ?
"First of all, we've released a
5 tracks EP « Stupid Bitch Reject » in March 2013. Then, our first
album « What I don't see » was out in September 2014. And at this
very moment, our new brand album « Noire psyché » is about to go out
in a few days. We autoproduced each one of them."
3. What is your most important news for the moment ?
"The most important thing is
obviously our upcoming album which we've been working on like crazy. We've
already revealed three tracks of it on Soundcloud and we're really looking
forward to introduce it as a whole."
4. So you have decided to launch a crownfunding campaign
to go on tour in Germany and Switzerland…can you talk about it ? Give us the most
important informations about your campaign and why you had to launch it ?
"Sure, so, we're not gonna beat
around the bush, we've decided to launch this crowdfunding campaign to help us
to cover the costs of a tour that we'll make in support of The beauty of Gemina
on next fall. This campaign is a necessity because everything will be on our
own charge and we won't get any support of any kind (label or tour promoter).
By the way, we've reached the half of
our goal for now and we shall never thank enough those who's helped and supported
the band."
5. Talk to us about touring ? Is it something you are used
to ?
"Well, we've made a few gigs
since 2014 in UK, Germany, Belgium, Czech Republic, Holland, Switzerland and
France most of the time as support band or in festivals. But the first big one
tour for us will be the one we spoke about before with TBOG, it's gonna be a
big step for Saigon Blue Rain and we hope that it will just be the beginning."
6. What are your favorit artists and how do they influence your music ?
"They are plenty but we have
some favorites of course : The Cure, Depeche Mode, And also the trees,
Cocteau Twins, Sonic youth, The Chameleons, Dum Dum girls, Wovenhand, Warpaint,
Dead can dance, Chelsea Wolfe, Slowdive, The Smiths, Alcest, Katatonia, Tool,
Clan of Xymox, Porcupine Tree, Bat for
lashes, The Smashing pumpkins, Crime and the city solution, Interpol, The
Smiths... and the list is still long. They all have fed us of their different
styles for years, inspiring us to try creating our SBR style."
7. What kind of
music do you compose and why ? Who writes the lyrics ? The music ? What is your
inspiration for your songs ?
"It's always difficult to
classify our stuff in a genre but we make something we like between Coldwave,
Ethereal wave, Dream pop and Shoegaze.
We both compose the music and
I write the lyrics. Sometimes, I already have ideas of subjects which
cross my mind, even before the phase of composition, inspired by thoughts,
feelings, books or movies and I tell myself that it could be a good subject of
writing. But sometimes, we compose the music and the atmosphere which gets out
of it inspires me some haunting images, colors or landscapes that I need to
stick on it."
